Google Buys Motorola Mobility Changes for Social Media?

On August 15, 2011, Google announced the acquisition of Motorola Mobility, an Android partner. What does that have to do with Marketing and Social Media?

Well, one giant company purchasing another makes big news no matter which companies they are, but the Google-Motorola purchase could have ramifications for so many channels, including:

  • mobile and tablet hardware manufacturing
  • Android operating system
  • mobile payment technology
  • MotoSpeak (allows users to read texts through a hands-free device and lets you dictate a reply with your voice)
  • Google TV (provides an easy and fast way to navigate to television channels, websites, apps, shows and movies)
  • user experience

Join the #SMchat Twitter chat on WEDNESDAY, 8/17/11, at 1P ET as we discuss the acquisition and potential marketing ramifications, starting with these questions:
Q1. Do you think the Google-Motorola purchase was a good idea? Why or why not?
Q2. What is the most important part of the acquisition from a marketer’s standpoint?
Q3. Do you think Motorola’s set-top boxes will be able to save Google TV?
Q4. Does the Motorola purchase make you want to create more Android apps or will those projects be put on hold?
Q5. Will Google’s purchase of Motorola impact your future marketing plans? If so, how?
BONUS Q6. Now that Google has plans for the Death Star, will it affect their “Don’t be evil” pledge? #Patent 5801707
