Indeed, the possibilities and probabilities seem limitless. But what does the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) really mean for the everyday human?
AI’s growing presence and staggering implications have been building momentum for a while now. In fact, one would not immediately realize this, but AI has been evolving since the 1950’s (see timeline infographic below – courtesy techinfographics.com – image is worth viewing in detail)
Perhaps today’s digitized individual’s closest experience with AI may include using personal assistance apps like SIRI, Cortana, Alexa etc. Of course, the degree of sophistication and current scope of AI processing capabilities are limited at this point.
But in the near future, will AI serve a more significant and impactful purpose other than amuse us with how quickly it catches up to humour and irony?
Lets take this #smchat hour (April 6, 2016 WED, 1pm EST) to discuss this fascinating technological phenomenon and see whether or not we can get a clear sense (pulse check ?) on AI’s relevance today and in the foreseeable future:
Q1 Name some practical and useful cases where AI can be a huge benefit.
Q2 What are your current sentiments (yes, instinctual reactions) to AI, its history, nature, purpose, current evolutionary trajectory, etc. ?
Q3 Are there conceivable *worse case scenarios* in the advancement of AI?
Q4 Should AI’s progress be proactively monitored? Regulated? Governed? outside of the realm of science’s authority?
