Creativation Marketing's Google Small Business Week event

Social Media For Events

Last week I missed #SMChat because my company, Creativation Marketing, was presenting a Google Partner event in celebration of National Small Business Week. The topic was “Make Your Website Work For You.” Want more details? Leave a comment below or send me a Tweet to @sharonmostyn

Speaking of events, @johnwlewis reported a recent trend relates to using social media during and after events. For example, some broadcasters cover sports events using textual commentary feeds which run live (during the event) and include messages from the public, John has seen the BBC do this. Also, after events, some are repurposing public messages to produce posts, for example, ESPN’s reporting on events like Formula 1 using Twitter messages: Australian Grand Prix 2017: espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/… Russian Grand Prix 2017 espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/…

Let’s talk about events and social media:

  1. Do you post to social media while at a marketing or other business conference? Why or why not?
  2. What about a sporting event, concert, play or other live events?
  3. Which social media platform(s) do you use? Does the platform depend on the event?
  4. Do you feel that it’s giving away the event “secrets” by posting on social media or is it “spreading the word?”
  5. Do you follow event hashtags to see what you’re missing? If so, which ones?
  6. How could you repurpose info from event hashtags into other forms of content?
